Pillow-Dex, the pillow fight organized

Pillow-Dex One of the many precursors of table tennis is certainly Pillow-Dex released in 1897. With a name like that, one wonders how this game can consist! Very little information about him circulating on the Internet and it reading "The Game Makers: The Story of Parker Brothers from Tiddledy Winks to Trivial Pursuit" I decided to make you (re) discover .

Firstly I would like to put in the context of the time. In 1897, Parker Brothers has not yet broken with the release of Pit and is continually looking for new games to support its catalog. George S. Parker makes regular trips to Europe to find the games or even game concepts that would march on American soil.
In London he discovered a game called Piladex , a UFO in terms of games. The principle is relatively simple, there are no limitations of players. Two teams battle each other across the table. It is separated into halves by a long string in the middle. The goal is to tap with the back of the hand the ball above the table without it lands in Part of his table. If we add the rackets, one dangerously close to table tennis. That's all asshole!

Parker Brothers decides to buy the rights to Robert Brothers for the United States. The expected success was not long in coming, hundreds of thousands of boxes of Pillow-Dex (renamed for the occasion) are sold at 25 cents. People have fun organizing "Pillow-Dex Parties" home.
addition to the time the game has enjoyed the participation of the Gibson Girl , personification of the feminine ideal, tall, slender but with the chest and hips. These are the women you see on the cover of the box.

You will discover in this little slide show of the game a few commercials and some original boxes that I managed to glean on the Internet:
