Splits In Wooden Swingset

2008 could be the year of games

Scrabulous Scott Jon Siegel , game designer by trade, has just published an interesting article on why that 2008 could very well be the year of games. In fact, it is rather why 2008 is the year of games for consoles and PC.

Indeed, he exhibits a number of points that tend to show that since 2006 there is a real rise of video games based on board games. Since the release of Uno in 2006 on the XBox, it continues to earn the players so it is 4th most played game on Xbox Live in 2007! Development costs are ridiculous front of "big" games such as Call Of Duty and Gears Of War where the graphic is very important. In addition, the results are again much more interesting in proportion to development costs.
By cons, as explained Brian Reynolds, CEO and Creative Director of Catan , play video from the game "Settlers of Catan "by Klaus Teuber, the challenge is to program an artificial intelligence capable of rivaling the most twisted of our playmates

The other important point is that games are gaining more and more social networks (Facebook, MySpace, Bebo and others). The best example is Scrabulous , application available on Facebook and that is a misfortune. In May 2008, there are currently just under 500,000 daily active users!

I suggest you read the article Scott Jon Siegel posted on escapistmagazine.com that enlightens us more about the gap between games and video games that is not so great as people think.
